It was so nice tonight to see Iron Chef America showcase a "home" garden. Of course it wasn't just any "home;" it was the White House garden! Michelle Obama introduced the secret ingredient herself on the White House lawn. Then White House chef Cristeta Comerford and Bobby Flay were pitted against Emeril Lagasse and Mario Batali.
The chefs got to go into the beautiful White House garden to choose ultra-fresh, seasonal veggies from Michelle Obama's gorgeous and productive potager. There were great shots of the First Lady working in the garden, and it's very nice to see that one of her favorite vegetables is sweet potatoes!
Since Love Apple Farm is dedicated to helping people grow their own vegetables, fruits, herbs and edible flowers, in addition to other edible sustainables like eggs and honey, it was fabulous to see such focus on home gardens on Iron Chef. Much attention was paid to the wonder and benefits of going out to pick fresh produce from your own garden.
Michelle Obama has done a great thing by celebrating growing your own vegetables. It's organic, it's sustainable, it's healthy, it's community-building, and it's family fun, too! You don't have to be the First Family to have a jaw-dropping, lip-smacking garden. Tear out that front lawn!

I live near the coast (less than 1 mile) and bought 5 varieties of Cynthia's tomatoes last year that were all designated as "coastal". All of the tomatoes I purchased produced beautiful fruit, and I grew them in a driveway patch no more than 18" wide! How cool is that!

Spring is here and with that it only means Love Apple Farm tomato seedlings. Each year my garden has been successful with your delicious tomatoes.
I've already been saving up my egg shells and storing in the freezer.
Thank you.

Your farm was awesome, and your house - beautiful! Hope someday I'll own one like yours too.

HaHa... awesome... Michelle Obama sure loves gardens - she was on Sesame Street showing kids all over the world how to plant seeds with Elmo!

It is just so brilliant that the first family are advocating growing your own vegetables. Perhaps it will catch on!!

Thanks for letting us know that Mountain Feed is now carrying bare root plants. I'd like to try blueberries or apricots or donate peaches, but will ask them if that would mostly be a fine dining invitation to deer and birds. I feed both gladly, but would like them to leave some for me. I love Mountain Feed and Seed, too.
