It's baby chick season! Congratulations to all of you new chicken-guardians out there. It's a very special and exciting undertaking whether these are your first chicks or your 10th batch of 'em. If you have just received (or ordered) your baby chicks, you will be keeping them in their brooder boxes for another 4 or 5 weeks, so you will have plenty of time to build this coop for your lovely laying ladies.
Backyard chicken-keeping is gaining popularity all over the US, so we've decided to post the plans for building your own coop to encourage you all to hop on the bandwagon. But remember, these are live creatures with special needs, so don't decide to keep chickens on a whim. You need to know what you're doing. That's why Love Apple Farm has a 4-hour Chicken-Keeping workshop.
The coop plans are comprehensive and step-by-step (with photos!), so you should have no trouble getting this up and functional by the time your hens transition from their brooder boxes.
We'd like to thank Happy Coops for these plans,
If you'd like someone else to do the work for you, you can order a fabulous chicken coop for around $500 (prices subject to minor fluctuation) at CoolCoops. They are great! Tell Knox that we sent you!
Also, if you'd like more information about caring for baby chicks and adult chickens, we recommend My Pet Chicken.
These coop plans will give you a great coop for 3 to 4 hens.

Paul Edward Clark Behind my garage at my home in Fairfax I have been growing my own heirloom tomatoes since we bought our house. There is nothing like throwing a fish head into the planting hole of each tomato. This is by far my best garden yet so far. I remember in grade school, in Belchertown, yes I said Belchertown, our teachers taught us that the pilgrims were taught by the native americans to place a fish in each planting whole when growing corn. I had forgotten that until I learned it again from a great website that teaches you how to grow tomatoes. You can visit her website here http://www.growbetterveggies.com/growbetterveggies/tomatoes/ and see my tomato patch here http://picasaweb.google.com/PaulEdwardClarkWebAlbums/Garden2010#
